Apple has fallen from the tree

I was listening to a podcaster rip into this fascist regime today, but from the specific viewpoint of Apple’s involvement in it.

I agreed with everything he said.

Cook has not only tarnished his image but Apple’s as well, removing apps at Trump’s command and awarding him with a trophy for who knows what. Not to mention Cook’s $1 million homage to the king.

So I need to either stand by my principles or admit that I’m a tech hypocrite. I don’t want to be a tech hypocrite. I don’t want that to be the first sentence of my obituary.

Most, not all, of my Apple products are two or three generations old. I prefer to buy last year’s model or something refurbished. Should I decide to reduce the Apple gear I own, now’s a good time to start.

This won’t be an easy transition or a rapid one. My M1 12” iPad, M1 Mac mini, and M2 11” iPad will be going good for at least another few years, and I use them all daily. The shame is that Apple’s stuff is really good.

I have a Chromebook, a Pixel 3 watch, and 7a phone, but Google’s image isn’t much better. So. Maybe Samsung for Android or Linux. I’m familiar with both, though my Linux skills will require a little updating.

And then there’s Microsoft.
